josie’s adventures: a birthday dinner and a new restaurant find!

late september sunset on the west side

i cooked dinner for the irishman and i for his birthday last month.  i wanted to make it a special even though it was a very low key event. i decorated the house with balloons and bunting.

the menu for the night:

appetizers:
shrimp in tomato sauce over fried green plantains
hummus and crackers

main:
salmon steak steamed with fresh spices
mashed potatoes
garlic and olive oil asparagus

dessert:
confetti cupcakes

and, of course, very nice wine to go along with our dinner

a few weeks afterwards, we decided to try out a new restaurant near our neighborhood. this was tian at the riverbank, inside riverbank state park.

this is what we had:

cold cod salad with green plantains:

sweet plantains with a corn cream and chili sauce.

new york sushi roll:

and tian paella with saffron rice.

i am so glad this place opened up. we had a lovely evening with delicious food and gorgeous views of the george washington bridge:

thanks for stopping by, hasta luego!

ps. tian at the riverbank does not know who i am or that i am writing about them.
