bechamel sauce

hi! today’s recipe is bechamel sauce, or white sauce.  it is used in a variety of dishes.  the reason i made it, and my next recipe, is because i made lasagna.  my mom always used bechamel sauce on her lasagna so i decided to continue with the tradition.  i am not sure if she ever made bechamel from scratch but i tried making it anyway.  it is a surprisingly easy to make sauce, only it is very fast paced.  you will see.  i apologize in advance for the shaky photos, i was in a rush.  here it is… bechamel sauce!

INGREDIENTS:
5 tablespoons of butter
4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
4 cups of milk
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt (skip if using salted butter)

INSTRUCTIONS:
melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat

add the the flour

stir well until the mixture turns a light, golden sandy color.  for about 7 minutes.

meanwhile, boil the milk in another pot.

add the hot milk to the butter and flour mixture.  add it one cup at a time.

make sure to mix well.

take off the heat and add the nutmeg and salt if you are using it

mix everything well and set aside until ready to use

once the sauce cools down pour it in a glass container to save it until ready to use.

you can use this basic white sauce on lasagna (you’ll see soon), fish, chicken and vegetables.  hope you try it!

thanks for stopping by,
