pizza night!! (part one: the dough)

i made pizza! for this post will focus on the pizza dough and the final product.  tomorrow’s post will focus on the sauce i made for it.  i adapted the recipe from the instructions and recipes book that came with my kitchenaid mixer.  this dough was so easy! 6 ingredients total and that’s it.

so here is the recipe for pizza dough!

INGREDIENTS:
1 package of active dry yeast regular or for pizza dough
1 cup of warm water
3/4 teaspoon of kosher salt
2 teaspoons of olive oil
3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of cornmeal

INSTRUCTIONS:
start by warming up your bowl.  i poured hot water on my bowl to make it warm.  once before i tried warming a plastic bowl in the microwave and ended up breaking it (i forgot to add water to the bowl) so from then on, i always warm up bowls by adding hot water.

dissolve the yeast in the warm water.

add the salt and olive oil.

add 2 1/2 cups of flour as well.

using the hook attachment on your mixer, mix the dough on speed 2 for about one minute.

add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, and continue mixing on speed 2 until the dough clings to the hook and cleans the sides of the bowl.

next, place the dough in a greased bowl turning to grease thoroughly.

cover the bowl and place it in a warm place to let it rise.

let it rise for about an hour (or until the dough has doubles in size).

after the dough rises, punch it and roll it out.

brush the baking sheet with olive oil and sprinkle with cornmeal.

roll out the dough and press it across the bottom of the pan.  using a fork, poke holes onto the dough.

spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough.

next, get all of your toppings ready. i added: mushrooms, bacon, basil, mozzarella cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.

layer all the toppings over the pizza dough and sauce.  i sprinkled ground pepper, oregano and parmesan cheese over the pizza before sticking it into the oven.

bake the pizza at 450° for 25-30 minutes.

i really liked the combination of flavors.  the sweetness of the sun-dried tomatoes complemented very well with the saltiness of the cheese and the bacon.

i served it with a quick salad just to add a lightness element to it.  the crust was so crunchy, the cornmeal on the pan really helped maintain the crunch throughout.

i hope you try making this at home.

i will be posting the recipe for the pizza sauce tomorrow.  thanks for stopping by!!
