following up on yesterday’s post today i bring you the recipe for the pizza sauce. i like my pizza sauce to be a little chunky, which is why i use canned and fresh tomatoes. in my opinion, it is so great to bit into a slice of pizza and have a piece of tomato explode in your mouth; it is a very nice and unexpected savory surprise!
here it is, the recipe for homemade pizza sauce!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil
3-5 garlic cloves
6-9 leaves of basil
1/2 cup of parsley
1 can diced tomatoes
2 medium tomatoes
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of mediterranean seasoning mix
1 teaspoon of kosher salt
1/2 cup of water

INSTRUCTIONS:
start by chopping up the basil, garlic, parsley

and the tomatoes

heat up the olive oil and cook the parsley, garlic and basil.

cook the basil, parsley and garlic for about a minute.
add the fresh and canned tomatoes to the pot.

season with oregano, cayenne, garlic powder, black pepper and kosher salt.

add 1/2 of water and mix well. let it simmer covered on medium heat until the water evaporates and the sauce thickens. about an hour.

this chunky sauce is full of spices that go well with any toppings. i could eat the pizza with only this sauce, it is garlicky and sweet and full of spices - the chunks of tomatoes are super juicy!

as you know, i also added cheese, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and bacon to the pizza. this sauce tied things up nicely - proof of this is that although the pizza was enough to feed about 6 people the two of us ate the whole thing already.

i hope you try this at home. thanks for stopping by!!
